Greater Victoria Posts Strong October for Single Detached Starts

CMHC reports rising migration to the Victoria region as well as low mortgage interest rates continue to boost housing starts. Starts are up 63% over the same period last year. A very strong 75 single detached homes were started in October 2015 compared with 48 in October 2014.  In fact, September 2015 posted 59 single detached starts, so it’s good to see an increase as we move into the late Fall. Single detached homes are important because they are an excellent indicator of young people securing employment and having confidence in the economy to start families.

In Greater Victoria, 2000 overall housing starts represent a return to a reasonably healthy housing sector and we are approaching that number for 2015.
